সিলেটের নাগরী লিপি ও বাংলা সাহিত্য

Abstract

সিলেটের মুসলমানদের মধ্যে এক নাগরী লিপির প্রচলন আছে। এই লিপি দেবনাগরী লিপি থেকে ভিন্ন এবং কেবলমাত্র সিলেট জেলার মুসলমানদের মধ্যে ইহার ব্যবহার দেখিতে পাওয়া যায় । এই লিপির উৎপত্তি সম্বন্ধে Sir George Grierson at Linguistic Servey of India (vol V p. 224 ) বলেন :

Among the low class Muhammedans to the east of this district (Sylhet) the use of Deva nagari alphabet occurs. It is extremely common for Muhammadans to sign their names in this character and the only explanation they offer for its use is that it is so much easier to learn than Bengali.
