Abstract

এস. এলিয়ট এক প্রবন্ধে বলেছিলেন, “From time to time, every hundred years or so, it is desirable that some critic shall appear to review the past of our literature, and set the poets and the poems in a new order It is that no genera- tion is interested in Art in quite the same way as any other; each generatson, like each individual, brings to the contempla- tion of art its own categories of appreciation, makes its own demands upon art and has its own uses for art.” প্রত্যেকটি নতুন জেনারেশন পূর্ববর্তী জেনারেশন সমূহের সঙ্গে নানা ভাবে বিরোধিতা করেই সৃষ্টির নতুন সম্পদ উপহার দিয়েছেন। আর এই বিরোধের মধ্যেই তাঁদের পার্থক্যের পরিচয়ও নিহিত রয়েছে। শিল্প-সাহিত্যের ক্রমবিকাশের ইতিহাস লক্ষ্য করলে দেখা যায়, কোন কোন পর্যায়ে পূর্ববর্তীদের সঙ্গে পরবর্তীদের পার্থক্য একেবারে আমূল৷
